155 errors found in learning materials - DepEd

After validating with concerned regional and division offices, the Department of Education (DepEd) on Monday, June 14, confirmed that it was able to find a total of 155 errors in learning materials distributed to students under the distance learning set-up implemented this school year.

DepEd Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instruction Diosdado San Antonio said that since School Year (SY) 2020-2021 formally opened in October last year, there were 155 errors found in learning materials after undergoing verification.

San Antonio said that in total, DepEd received 163 error reports - which were either locally-produced (those that were produced by schools) or produced by the its Central Office.

Of the 163, San Antonio said that 104 errors were reported from from locally-produced modules; 23 from unknown sources; one from art materials textbook of private institution; one from reference textbook; five from DepEd TV episodes; and 29 from materials produced by DepEd Central Office.

Upon verification, San Antonio said that the attention of the concerned division offices are called for prompt action.

The erroneous materials are either recalled or rectified by DepEd based on the nature of the content. Errata re also issued by the concerned offices on the said errors.

San Antonio said that DepEd has been constantly monitoring reports on errors found in the modules distributed to students.

As part of its mechanism on rectifying errors, DepEd also released “notes to teachers” in order to address these errors.

In some cases, San Antonio said that DepEd was not able to locate the origin of the reported errors - thus, rectifying the error remains a challenge.

“Hindi po 'yan ma-locate, wala pong nakapagpapakita sa amin na nasa DepEd 'yan o ginawa 'yan ng DepEd (We cannot locate this, no one could show us where these errors came from or if it was produced by DepEd),” San Antonio said during the hearing of the House committee on public accounts.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) situation in the country, schools remained closed and DepEd has been implementing distance learning though the use of multiple learning delivery modalities such as modular (printed and offline), online learning, TV and radio-based instruction and blended learning.
