War vs child exploitation: DSWD, World Vision to sign pact for child protection project

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) announced Sunday, June 13, that it will sign a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with World Vision for the implementation of a three-year project that seeks to address “worst forms" of child exploitation.

The signing of the MOA for the implementation of Project Against Child Exploitation or Project ACE is set on Monday, June 14, in celebration of World Day Against Child Labor (WDACL).

“The Project ACE aims to improve enforcement of the legal framework pertaining to worst forms of child labor (WFCL), including online sexual abuse and exploitation of children (OSAEC), and violations of acceptable conditions of work (ACW); improve assistance services for victims of WFCL, including OSEC, and violations of acceptable conditions of work; and, strengthen partnerships to accelerate progress in addressing WFCL, including OSAEC, and violations of ACW,” the DSWD said in a statement on Sunday.

DSWD Secretary Rolando Joselito D. Bautista and World Vision National Director Rommel V. Fuerte will sign the agreement, which aims to highlight the partnership between DSWD and World Vision in the implementation of Project ACE for three years.

Covered by the three-year project are areas in Metro Manila and in the Visayas region.

“The project will also capture Strategic Helpdesks for Information, Education, Livelihood and other Developmental Interventions (SHIELD), which was developed by DSWD, as an intervention or program strategy,” the DSWD said.

“The MOA also seeks to strengthen policies, programs, and services to address the WFCL including OSAEC and violations of ACW, and the collaborative efforts between government and civil society organizations, defining the role of each organization, with the end goal of eradicating child labor,” it added.

Bautista and Fuerte will be joined by DSWD Undersecretary for Operations Atty. Aimee S. Torrefranca-Neri and World Vision Operations Director Ms. Xenia R. Legaspi.

World Vision is a global humanitarian organization "devoted to improving the lives of children, their families and communities to overcome poverty." Annually, it extends assistance to over 1.5 million Filipino children.
