'Help save lives': PH Red Cross calls for blood donation on World Blood Donor Day

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) is encouraging more Filipinos to donate their blood to help save million of lives, as the nation celebrates World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) on Monday, June 14, 202.

PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Senator Richard J. Gordon said donating blood “remains an essential service” especially during this time of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

“The people’s need for blood doesn’t stop. PRC will always be open to help. Donate now! The blood that you will donate today will save lives tomorrow,” he said in a statement.

This year’s theme of WBDD is “Give blood and keep the world-beating” to raise global and national awareness on the need for blood.

The PRC cited the need to replenish its blood supply as the global battle against COVID-19 pandemic continues.

“PRC is observes strict health protocols during blood donation, and all technical staff are tested regularly to ensure the safety of all blood donors.”

The country’s premier humanitarian organization said in this year’s #WBDD campaign, it zeroed in on the significant role of the youth in ensuring a safe blood supply for the country. The PRC said it aims to encourage young people for voluntary blood donation every three months and inspire others to do the same.

Gordon urged individuals who are interested to donate their blood to keep in touch with all the 104 Red Cross chapters and 98 blood service facilities, or contact the hotline 143 for urgent blood concerns.

“PRC remains as one of the top contributors to safe and quality blood supply in the country, saving millions of lives and improving the health and quality of life of many patients every day.”
