Senator Francis Pangilinan on Saturday, June 12, thanked United States President Joe Biden for the two million doses of Pfizer-BioNtech vaccines it gave to the Philippines, saying it gives a much-needed boost to the country's COVID-19 vaccine supply.

“Nagpapasalamat tayo sa US at kay President Joe Biden para sa higit 2.2 million na bakuna na dumaan sa international Covax facility. Tamang-tama ito dahil kailangang-kailangan ng Pilipinas para magtuloy-tuloy ang ating vaccine roll-out (We thank the US and President Joe Biden for the more than 2.2 million vaccine donation thru the Covax facility. This comes at a time when the Philippines badly needs the supply to proceed with our vaccine rollout),” Pangilinan said in a statement.
“We hope that this will increase confidence in the vaccination program,” he added.
Some 2.28 million doses of Pfizer vaccines were delivered to the Philippines on Thursday, June 10. About 210,000 were sent in Cebu while 110,00 were delivered to Davao City.
Currently, the country's total vaccine supply stands at 12.7 million, following the arrival of the 100,000 doses of government-procured Sputnik V vaccines.
Pangilinan said he hopes that the arrival of more vaccines will kickstart an increase in the country’s vaccination rate.
Earlier, he called on the Senate Committee of the Whole to reconvene to get updates on the national vaccination program.
