New K-pop girl group Lightsum debuts with 'Vanilla'

Cube Entertainment unveiled its new K-pop girl group Lightsum, which debuted with the single album “Vanilla’ on June 10.

Lightsum is composed of eight members. Chown, Nayoung and Yujeong were part of the survival audition TV show “Produce 48” of Mnet, which gave birth to IZ*ONE while Juhyeon participated in “The Unit” and “Dancing High.” Other members are Sangah, Hina, Huiyeon and Jian, 14, the youngest idol to debut in the current K-pop scene.

According to Hanteo Chart, “Vanilla” sold 8,305 copies on the first day of release on June 10 to place third on the daily album chart behind EXO and Wei.

The music video for “Vanilla” has garnered 2.34 million views in 17 hours after it was released at 5 p.m. (Philippine time) on June 10.

Lightsum means “a group of bright LIGHTs coming together as one SUM to illuminate everyone in this world and bring more positive energy to people through their message of hope,” according to their agency.

“Vanilla,” on the other hand, means that “Lightsum’s special, eye-opening vanilla taste will be a magical gift for your ordinary day.”

The song is a pop dance song produced by Steven Lee, who produced and arranged the song “In Memories’ from The Avengers and Oh My Girl’s “Secret Garden” and “Nonstop”; Caroline Gustavsson, a Swedish songwriter who produced songs for Girls’ Generation, AOA and GFRIEND; and J. Littlewood, a British songwriter.
