Weather conditions across the country is forecast to improve in the next few days while the “monsoon trough” is expected to persist, the state weather bureau said Friday, June 11.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the monsoon trough will continue to affect the entire country.

The agency explained that the trough is the line of convergence between the southwest monsoon or “habagat” and the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ).

It creates cyclonic vortices that leads to the formation of tropical cyclones.

“Asahan natin patuloy pa rin yang makaka-apekto sa mga susunod na araw pero medyo improving weather na tayo sa mga susunod araw (We expect that it will continue to affect in the next few days but we will have an improving weather in the next few days),” weather specialist Shelly Ignacio said.

Based on the 4 a.m. weather update, cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will affect Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, and Mimaropa due to the monsoon trough.

Moreover, the trough will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the rest of the country.

Meanwhile, there is a possibility that the low pressure area (LPA) being monitored in the West Philippine Sea will enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).

Ignacio said the LPA has a low chance of intensifying into a tropical cyclone.

She said the weather disturbance was located near the PAR at about 545 kilometers west of Northern Luzon at around 3 a.m.

But she noted that the LPA will only enter the PAR for a short while before exiting and further moving away from the country.
