BOC clears successive COVID vaccine deliveries

The Bureau of Customs - Port of NAIA (BOC-NAIA) has cleared the three latest importations of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccines totalling 3,074,410 doses, which arrived between June 9 and 10.

The first importation consisting of 111,150 doses of Pfizer-BioNtech vaccines arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 on June 9, at around 8:30 p.m., via flight AHK457/LD457. Upon arrival, the vaccines were immediately transferred in the designated cold storage facility pending its delivery to Davao via domestic flight.

The second importation consisting of one million doses of Sinovac jabs arrived at around 7:20 a.m., June 10, via flight 5J 671 from Beijing, China. They were immediately taken to the Pharmaserv cold storage facility in Marikina City.

Lastly, another 1,963,260 doses of Pfizer-BioNtech vaccines arrived later that day at 8:30 p.m. at NAIA Terminal 3 aboard flight AHK457/LD457. A portion of this shipment was assigned to a cold storage facility prior its domestic flight to Davao, while the rest were sent to three different cold chain storage facilities or warehouses in Metro Manila.

Meanwhile, an additional 100,000 doses of Sputnik V are set to arrive at NAIA at around 11 p.m. on Friday, June 11.

District Collector Carmelita M. Talusan attributed the successful clearance as well as the seamless handling, transfer, and release of the vaccines to the continuous cooperation and strengthened coordination of all concerned government agencies. For his part, BOC Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero said the agency will continue to work 24/7 in facilitating the movement of goods. He also ensured reduced customs clearance times for sensitive shipments deemed essential in the country's fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
