2 slain persons in QC have pending arrest warrants — QCPD

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has identified the two individuals who were ambushed inside their car on a rainy Wednesday night in New Manila.

Police said the victims, 29-year-old Mark Anthony Ballesteros and 27-year-old Darrel Anne Bonifacio, “have standing warrants of arrest issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 105 of Quezon City for estafa case.”

“However, according to Atty. Dominador de Guzman Jr., branch clerk of court, the case against the victims was already dismissed on October 22, 2019,” police added.

Despite various identification cards they possessed using different names and addresses, police were able to establish the identity of the victims through the driver’s license recovered inside their car.

"Yung mga ID meron din hindi magkaparehong pangalan. Iba-ibang address. ‘Yun ang subject ng ating investigation (Their IDs have different names and addresses. That's the subject of our investigation)," QCPD director Brig. Gen. Antonio Yarra said in a recent DZBB interview.

Yarra added that they are eyeing personal grudge as the motive behind their killing.

The incident appeared to be well-planned as the firearm that was used to kill them was a rifle and around four to six motorcycle-riding gunmen separately tailed them and waited for them on their way home after going to an appliance center in San Juan, according to police.

"Pauwi na sila noong dumaan dito...dito nakakuha ng pagkakataon kasi ‘yung lugar medyo madilim at paakyat yung spot na kanilang pinagpatayan (They were on their way home when they arrived at the crime scene, which was not well-lit and was uphill)," Yarra said.

Ballesteros was shot right inside the car while Bonifacio was dragged out of the vehicle before the gunmen fired at her.

Recovered from the victims' possessions were P531,600 cash, two cellular phones, various IDs, several pieces of jewelry, and a designer bag.
