Poll official appeals to nuisance bets to take COC filing seriously

An official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has appealed to nuisance candidates to take the filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) seriously.

Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon issued the appeal months before the October filing of COC for the May 2022 polls.

"I am begging you, please, don't do this as a hobby, don't do this for fun, don't do this for your Facebook and Instagram posts. Don't fill up that COC if you are not seriously running for office," she said in a television interview Wednesday, June 10.

The poll official also expressed hope that the COC filing will not be extended.

"We hope that this COC filing will not be extended anymore because of our situation. It is very hard to move with the pandemic," said Guanzon.

"We have to move on schedule. We hope all candidates will cooperate, especially the nuisance candidates," she added.

Guanzon also gave an update on their preparations for the upcoming polls.

"All preparation are really on board. Biddings are on time. We are trying to procure more machines so we can reduce the number of voters per precinct from 1,000 to 700," she said.

"December we should be ready for the project of precincts. Printing of ballots will be in January at the latest," added Guanzon.
