Filipino kid wins bronze medal at Cake Junior International Competition

A Filipino kid won a bronze medal at the Cake Junior International Competition.

"I was so happy, excited, and thankful to God," said Pio Calungcaguin in an interview with CNN.

His mother, Anj Mariano-Calungcaguin, co-founder of The Make Peace Bakery, said joining the competition was just out of the blue.

"Since we've been practicing baking and decorating for a year, sabi ko bakit hindi natin I-try ito. Kasi once in a lifetime experience ito sa mga bata," the elder Calungcaguin told CNN.

Among other Filipino kids who won the virtual merit awards were Dominic Villafuerte and Brie Baldes.

Pio, the only Filipino to win a medal, said he learned the art of baking from his parents who are both bakers.

From single tiered cake, cookies, cupcakes or to any decorative exhibit, the Cake Junior International Competition aims to give a chance to juniors to show off their cake decorating skills.

"It doesn't matter if you win or lose, as long as you never give up, you are a winner," the young baker said.

“We were overwhelmed by the number, and impossibly high standard of entries. Well done to everyone who took part in the world’s most exciting sugarcraft and cake decorating competition.”
