Davao del Norte under GCQ as COVID-19 cases surge

DAVAO CITY – Davao del Norte was placed under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) from June 10 to June 30, 2021 following a surge in COVID-19 cases.

Davao del Norte Gov. Edwin Jubahib issued Executive Order (EO) No. 26, Series of 2021, which prohibits non-essential travels and gatherings outside the province.

The EO also prohibits all forms of gatherings "except when they are permitted by the City/Municipal IATF through the Barangay Captain concerned where the gathering shall be held." These gatherings are only allowed up to 30 percent of the seating or venue capacity and participants and establishments are required to strictly observe minimum public health standards including the ventilation standards provided by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

The EO also tasked the barangay to closely monitor the compliance of the gathering while being conducted.

Gatherings in residences of any person outside one's immediate household shall also be prohibited. Other prohibited gatherings include weddings, baptism, and blessings, among others, except those which were already scheduled before the EO was issued.

Religious gatherings shall be allowed up to 30 percent of the venue capacity, "provided that there is no objection from the Local Government Unit where the religious gathering may take place." The province will also implement curfew hours from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.

The EO exempts from the curfew hours the "members of the COVID-19 Crisis Management and Response Team, emergency vehicles, health workers, and those who are required to work within the curfew period." The EO limits the selling and purchase of liquors from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. "However, consumption is strictly prohibited in public places, such as restaurants, cafeterias, bars, and the like," it added.

Before the issuance of EO No. 26, the province was under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) until June 30.
