Coast Guard conducts medical evacuation for BFAR personnel in Palawan

An emergency medical evacuation was conducted for ailing personnel of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) personnel in the vicinity waters off Likas Island, Kalayaan Island Group, Palawan, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported on Wednesday, June 9.

The PCG Medical Service members in Palawan conducted the first aid and initial health assessment of the 43-year-old Junie Catipay, who was suffering from severe stomach pain since June 5, Saturday.

It was later found out that the BFAR personnel had a fall incident in 2016 and was diagnosed with peptic ulcer.

Personnel of the PCG BRP Cabra (MRRV-4409) conducted the medical evacuation and transferred Catipay to an ambulance who ferried him to the Municipal Health Office (MHO) of El Nido, Palawan for the conduct of rapid antigen test, which yielded negative result.

He was later transferred to the “Ospital ng Palawan” for further medical assistance.

The attending physician confirmed that Catipay has a peptic ulcer disease and advised him to take his medications regularly.

The Coast Guard transported the BFAR personnel to his relatives’ residence in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan for further assistance.
