BIR padlocks 83 businesses; Find out why

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has asked business owners to register their operations and report correct sales in order to avoid getting shut down.

Revenue Deputy Commissioner for Operations Arnel SD. Guballa issued the reminder even as he reported the closure of 83 business establishments nationwide for the whole month of April for either non-registration, or under declaration of sales.

However, he said many of these erring businesses were allowed to resume operations after their operators settled their tax liabilities. The tax liabilities totalled to more than P737 million.

The latest establishment to be padlocked was New Age Minimart located inside a mall in Parañaque City for alleged non-registration.

Parañaque Revenue District Officer Caroline Takata said the grocery was closed last week for the failure of its operator to settle the P21 million value-added tax (VAT) assessment.

The amount was established during a two-week surveillance of daily sales to determine the average annual income for the computation of the 12 percent VAT.
