DOH logs 5,177 new cases of COVID-19; death toll crosses 21,000-mark

The Department of Health (DOH) announced 5,177 more COVID-19 infections on Tuesday, June 1.

This is the second straight day that the country logged below 7,000 cases.

The new cases brought the country’s caseload to 1,235,467. Of the total, 53,203 are active cases or currently ill patients.

It was noted that 93.1 percent of the active cases are experiencing mild symptoms, 2.3 percent are asymptomatic, 1.4 percent are critically ill, 1.8 percent have severe symptoms, while 1.30 percent are moderate cases.

The total number of recoveries rose to 1,161,252 with 6,230 new survivors. Meanwhile the death toll increased by 46 to 21,012.

In a statement on Monday night, the DOH said it is currently “seeing 12 regions with a positive two-week growth rate and high average daily attack rate.”

These regions are Zamboanga Peninsula, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Soccsksargen, Ilocos region, Davao region, Central Visayas, Bicol region, Eastern Visayas, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

“The DOH has flagged this and is continuously monitoring the trends in all regions,” it said.
