As the May 15 deadline nears, 18 local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila and four adjacent provinces collectively referred to as the NCR (National Capital Region)-plus have now completed the distribution of the national government’s financial assistance to the intended recipients.
Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo M. Año said that this translates to P1.93 billion worth of distributed ayuda by the 18 NCR-plus LGUs.
Each qualified individual is entitled to P1,000 cash aid with the ceiling for every poor family pegged at P4,000.
"Eighteen LGUs have already crossed the finish line as they have already distributed the full amount of ayuda downloaded to them by the national government. Puspusan pa rin ang pamamahagi (cash aid) ng iba pang LGUs sa NCR -plus at karamihan naman sa kanila ay patapos na rin sa kanilang pamimigay (The distribution of the cash aid in other NCR-plus LGUs remain intense with most of them in the home stretch of their disbursement),’’ Año said.
He noted that most NCR-plus LGUs are on track to finish their aid distribution and are currently working round the clock to meet the May 15 deadline.
Those who finished the distribution were the City of Biñan; City of Cabuyao; City of San Pedro; City of Santa Rosa; Alaminos; Calauan; Famy; Magdalena; Nagcarlan; Paete; Pila; Rizal; and Santa Cruz in Laguna. Other LGUs which registered 100 percent distribution rate are Guiguinto and Pandi in Bulacan and City of Tagaytay, Amadeo and Naic in Cavite.
The LGUs in Rizal have not finished their ayuda distribution but Cardona is almost complete with 95.94 percent.
81 percent distribution rate in entire NCR-plus
Año disclosed that more than P18.6 billion have been distributed to the qualified recipients in all of the LGUs within the NCR-plus for a 80.95 percent distribution rate.
The DILG chief added that Laguna also tallied the highest percentage of ayuda distribution in the NCR-plus with a 93.84 percent rating followed by NCR with 81.92 percent; Bulacan with 80.52 percent; Rizal with 74.41 percent; and Cavite with 72.99 percent.
He revealed that the NCR LGUs are also on a roll as most have registered more than 90 percent distribution rate as of May 8 with the municipality of Pateros leading the way with 97.28 percent closely followed by Caloocan City with 97.18 percent; Quezon City with 95.97 percent; Manila with 95 percent; Pasay City with 93.47 percent; Mandaluyong City with 93.02 percent; San Juan City with 92.66 percent and, Navotas City with 90.68 percent.
"Some of the reasons that LGUs have not yet completed their ayuda distribution are the huge number of beneficiaries, the big number of appeals that are undergoing deliberation, the tedious and lengthy process of partnering with banks and remittance centers for ayuda payout for those doing electronic distribution, and the difficulty of mobilizing personnel in this time of pandemic," Año said.
"Despite these challenges, however, we are confident na matatapos rin nila ang pagbibigay ayuda sa takdang oras (that they will complete the ayuda distribution within the prescribed deadline),’’ he added. (Chito A. Chavez)
