P150-M smuggled PPEs, brand imitation products seized in Binondo storage facility

Authorities have located a storage facility filled with P150 million worth of smuggled products that include personal protective gears and brand imitation clothing in a raid in Binondo, Manila.

SMUGGLED ITEMS UNCOVERED-- Various smuggled products such as cosmetic products, personal protective gears, and brand imitation clothing amounting to P150 million were recently discovered in a storage facility in Binondo, Manila.

Cosmetic and beauty products, unregistered Aidelai face masks, Heng De face shields, brand imitation clothing, toys, and cellphone cases, among others were discovered in the storage facility during an inspection conducted by a composite team from the Manila International Container Port (MICP), Bureau of Customs (BOC) and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

Armed with a letter of authority signed by Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero, the composite team inspected the storage facility on May 5.

Further inventory and investigation are underway to ascertain the value of the confiscated products. Possible charges for violation of Section 1400 of RA 10863 also known as the Customs Modernization Act (CMTA) will also be filed pending investigation.

No arrest during the inspection was reported.

The bureau reiterates the importance of ensuring the authenticity of items especially for items such as face masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE).

"As the economy begins to open up after the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), MICP shall remain at the forefront of border security and anti-smuggling under the guidance of BOC Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero," the MICP said in a statement.
