'Our grief is a gift that brings hope': Archdiocese of Manila holds Mass for COVID-19 victims

The Archdiocese of Manila on Saturday, May 8, offered a Mass to those who died due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The "Mass for the Dead" was held at the Manila Cathedral in Intramuros, Manila and was presided by Bishop Broderick Pabillo.

“We pray for the eternal repose of our beloved dead, believing that the Lord will bring them to greener pasture,” said Pabillo in his homily.

“Nalulungkot tayo para sa ating sarili, wala na sila sa ating kinagawiang relationship sa kanila. Hindi na natin sila nakikita. Hindi na natin sila nakakakwentuhan (We feel sorry for ourselves. We do not have that usual relationship with them. We can no longer see them. We can't talk to them anymore). But we believe that they are in a better situation because death is a birth to a better world. There is a far greater and better world than we have now,” he said.

Pabillo said that “death is not the end but a change to a new world.”

“Let us grieve together with our people. But our grief is a gift that brings hope because alam natin (we know) that death is not the end. In fact, death is a birth to another and better life and better world,” he said.
