ITCZ continues to bring rain showers, thunderstorms in Mindanao

Mindanao will still be cloudy with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the prevalence of the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Friday, May 7.

PAGASA advised those in Mindanao to remain alert against possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to at times heavy rains.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will continue to have "fair" weather due to the easterlies but some isolated rain showers may also occur due to localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned that severe thunderstorms could trigger flash floods over low-lying areas or landslides in mountainous communities.

Due to the prevalence of easterly winds, most parts of the country will continue to experience warm and humid weather conditions until the weekend.

Based on its extended weather outlook for key areas from May 8 to May 11, Saturday to Tuesday, PAGASA said that maximum air temperatures may reach 35 degrees Celsius in Metro Manila, 36 degrees Celsius in Tuguegarao City, 27 degrees Celsius in Baguio City, 31-32 degrees Celsius in Tagaytay City, 33-34 degrees Celsius in Puerto Princesa City, 32-33 degrees Celsius in Metro Cebu, 33-34 degrees Celsius in Metro Davao, and 33-35 degrees Celsius in Zamboanga City.

The highest recorded air temperature in the Philippines was 42.2 degrees Celsius in Tuguegarao, Cagayan on May 11, 1969.

Meanwhile, the highest recorded air temperature in Metro Manila was 38.5 degrees Celsius on May 14, 1987.
