Dagupan records 48°C heat index; warm weather to continue, PAGASA warns

Several areas continued to record "dangerously" high heat index values on Friday, May 7, topped by Dagupan City, Pangasinan with a sizzling 48 degrees Celsius (°C).

The following monitoring stations recorded the highest heat index values Friday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Dagupan City, Pangasinan (48°C, 2 p.m.)

San Jose, Occidental Mindoro (44°C, 2 p.m.)

Sangley Point, Cavite (44°C, 2 p.m.)

Cotabato City, Maguindanao (43°C, 11 a.m.)

Laoag City, Ilocos Norte (43°C, 2 p.m.)

NAIA, Pasay City (43°C, 2 p.m.)

Puerto Princesa City, Palawan (43°C, 2 p.m.)

Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte (42°C, 11 a.m.)

Masbate City, Masbate (42°C, 2 p.m.)

Roxas City, Capiz (42°C, 2 p.m.)

Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur (42°C, 2 p.m.)

Clark Airport, Pampanga (41°C, 2 p.m.)

The heat index is the measurement of how hot it really feels when relative humidity is factored in with the actual air temperature.

A heat index between 41℃ and 54℃ is under what the PAGASA considers as "danger" level due to the high likelihood of heat cramps and heat exhaustion.

The highest heat index so far in 2021 was recorded in Dagupan City, Pangasinan on April 6 at 49℃.

PAGASA said the intertropical convergence zone or ITCZ will continue to bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers over Mindanao until Saturday, May 8.

Meanwhile, the easterlies will bring generally fair weather conditions apart from isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Metro Manila and the rest of the country mostly in the afternoon or evening.

By Sunday until Friday, May 9 to May 14, PAGASA said the easterlies will continue to bring warm and fair weather conditions except for some isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.
