110-bed modular hospital at Lung Center targeted for 2Q 2021 completion--DPWH

The construction of a 110-bed modular hospital within the Lung Center of the Philippines in Quezon City is now in full swing, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said on Friday, May 7.

The agency said that they are "fast-tracking the set up" of the pop-up facilities in order to meet the 2021 second quarter deadline.

A total of five cluster units of modular facilities are under construction, DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said. The frame foundation of the clusters were the first to be installed.

“This will greatly benefit the hospital as it will increase its bed capacity with additional 110 rooms for management and treatment of COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) patients under moderate to severe and critical cases,” the secretary said.

Four cluster units will house 88 beds as a typical hospital facility while one unit with 22 beds will serve as an additional intensive care unit (ICU) for the hospital.

DPWH Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain and Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary and treatment czar Dr. Leopoldo Vega recently inspected the construction site of the additional facilities at the Lung Center of the Philippines.

They noted that the construction was progressing "with a sense of urgency".
