ITCZ to bring rain showers, thunderstorms over parts of Mindanao - PAGASA

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may affect the southern portion of Mindanao due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), the state weather bureau said Thursday, May 6.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the ITCZ, or the region where the trade winds from the northern and southern hemispheres converge, will persist over Davao and Soccsksargen regions.

State meteorologists warned of possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to at times heavy rains.

On the other hand, PAGASA said the easterlies or warm and humid winds blowing from the Pacific will prevail over the rest of the country.

Weather specialist Ana Clauren said Luzon, including Metro Manila, may experience warm and humid weather conditions with a chance of isolated rain showers in the afternoon or in the evening.

Warm and humid weather conditions may also be experienced in most parts of Visayas and Mindanao with a high chance of isolated rain showers due to the easterlies and localized thunderstorms.

“Asahan natin ang maulan na panahon sa southern portion ng Mindanao, sa Soccsksargen at Davao Region, dulot ng Intertropical Convergence Zone (Expect rainy weather in the southern portion of Mindanao, in Soccsksargen and Davao Region, due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone),” Clauren said.

PAGASA has not issued a gale warning, meaning fishing boats and other small sea crafts are allowed to venture out into the sea.
