How to stay cool amid the scorching weather

Warm weather has been prevailing over the country over the past few weeks and is expected to continue in the coming days.

As air temperature and heat index continue to soar, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has released some tips on how to stay cool during an extreme heat event.

PAGASA advised the public to stay indoors as much as possible, but if air conditioning is not available, stay on the lowest floor out of the sunshine.

It also encouraged the wearing of lightweight and light-colored clothing as they absorb less heat.

"Drink plenty of water regularly, as the body needs water to keep cool. It is also the safest liquid to drink during heat emergencies," PAGASA said.

"Avoid drinking liquor because it dehydrates the body," it added.

Moreover, the government weather agency recommended eating small meals more frequently.

It also recommended avoiding foods high in protein as it can increase metabolic heat.
