18 areas register 'dangerous' heat index values

More weather monitoring stations in different parts of the country recorded “dangerous” heat index levels on Thursday, May 6, with an heat index as high as 47 degrees Celsius recorded in Dagupan City.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said 18 weather monitoring stations registered “dangerous” heat index levels.

The following monitoring stations recorded the highest heat index values on Thursday:

Dagupan City, Pangasinan (47°C)

San Jose, Occidental Mindoro (45°C)

Sangley Point, Cavite (45°C)

Puerto Prinsesa, Palawan (44°C)

Laoag City, Ilocos Norte (43°C)

Masbate City, Masbate (43°C)

Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur (43°C)

Dauis, Bohol (42 degrees Celsius)

Davao City, Davao del Sur (42°C)

Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte (42°C)

Roxas City, Capiz (42°C)

Tacloban City, Leyte (42°C)

Ambulong, Batangas (41°C)

Catbalogan, Western Samar (41°C)

Clark Airport, Pampanga (41°C)

Cotabato City, Maguindanao (41°C)

Iba, Zambales (41°C)

NAIA Pasay City, Metro Manila (41°C)

PAGASA defines heat index as the human discomfort index that gives the “apparent” temperature or what a human perceives or feels as the temperature affects the body.

It is at least 3°C to 4°C higher than the actual air temperature.
