Paraguay may not participate at 69th Miss Universe pageant due to COVID-19

Three days before the start of the 69th Miss Universe Competition, Miss Paraguay Vanessa Castro Guillen is not sure if she will compete in the prestigious pageant after she has tested positive for COVID-19.

In an official statement posted on MISSUUPDATES Instagram on May 4, Vanessa wrote: “I have a lot of faith in the Virgin that I will be able to recover and arrive to the competition.''

Vanessa, 28, works in architecture, designing homes and buildings. She is a graduate from Universidad Nacional De Asuncion where she dedicated herself to rehabilitation work for children with different disabilities during her time as a student.

Her greatest accomplishment is her commitment to architecture studies because in her country, architecture is essential for urban development. Vanessa is passionate about other cultures and loves to incorporate her outside influences into her designs.

In the future, she hopes to influence more women to take on careers in male dominated fields and demand the recognition they deserve. She advocates for the empowerment of young girls and encourages them to take up space where men typically dominate.

Vanessa aspires to become a recognized architect like Zaha Hadid. She adores spending time with her family and pets and an advocate for underprivileged children and women and would like to create systems and policies to protect them.

The 69th Miss Universe Competition will kick off with the arrival of candidates at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino on May 6-7.

On May 7,8, and 9, the candidates will register. Later, they will attend fittings, photo shoots with Fadil Berisha, and film crew shoots.

Other schedule of activities:

May 10, 11, and 12 - Choreography rehearsals

May 13 - Delegates interview, judging and National Costume Show

May 14 - Preliminary Competition

May 15 - On-camera rehearsal

May 16 - Coronation 

May 17 - Delegates departure
