Bren Esports, 6045 Pirates post decent finish in Valorant SEA Challengers Finals

Bren Esports and 6045 Pirates missed out on the Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) Stage 2 Masters Reykjavik in Iceland but still proudly raised the Philippine flag in the Southeast Asia Challengers Finals held over the weekend.

Winners of the last two Philippine Challengers, Bren and the Pirates finished at the 5th-6th places in the 10-team regional tournament which was eventually won by Thai powerhouse X10 Esports.

The Filipino representatives each bagged $3,250 (over P150,000) and 30 VCT points.

Composed of Jessie "JessieVash" Cuyco, Jayvee "DubsteP" Paguirigan, Jim "BORKUM" Timbreza, Kevin "Dispenser" Te and Riley "Witz" Go, PH Challengers 2 champ Bren opened its campaign with a 2-0 decimation (13-3 Haven; 13-3 Bind) of Indonesia's Boom Esports in the upper bracket quarterfinals last Friday, April 30.

However, JessieVash and company fell short against Singapore-based team Paper Rex, 2-1 (13-4 Icebox; 5-13 Ascent; 12-14 Bind) before bowing out of the tourney with a defeat to Indonesia's Team nxl in the do-or-die lower bracket third round (11-13 Icebox) on Saturday.

For their part, the PH Challengers 3 winning Pirates shot down Vietnam's FEARUS, 2-0 (14-12 Bind; 13-6 Icebox), in the upper bracket first round as well as nxl, 2-0 (13-9 Ascent; 13-10 Bind) in the quarterfinals.

The Visayan pride bannered by Vince "Flash" Medado, Carl "senyorcarl" Carandang, Dominique "N1CO" Tul-id, Keith "FireSyjN" Madarang and James "2ge" Goopio under coach Yuki "Zyki" Uruma demolished X10 in Icebox, 13-1, but faltered in the deciding Haven map, 5-13, resulting in a 2-1 win for the Thai team in the semifinals.

Zyki's crew was not able to recover from there as they yielded to eventual runner-up FULL SENSE of Thailand in their rubber lower bracket match (7-13 Haven).
