Sigh of relief as LA Tenorio receives COVID vaccine in US

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel’s LA Tenorio revealed more details about his experience of being vaccinated recently in the United States through a video blog he posted over the weekend.

In a 17-minute video posted on his YouTube channel, the Finals Most Valuable Player of last year’s PBA Philippine Cup bubble received a single dose of Johnson & Johnson vaccine at a Walmart store in Los Angeles.

Johnson & Johnson is currently the only vaccine that needs a single shot in order to be fully protected from COVID-19.

“I am somehow protected,” said Tenorio, who added that he’ll still observe health and safety protocols as a precaution.

Getting the shot will allow Tenorio to feel some sense of security once he joins Ginebra practices.

The PBA is still waiting as to when its players can get their chance of getting inoculated.

So far, only frontline health workers, senior citizens and adults with comorbidities are among those being prioritized in the country’s vaccination program.

But athletes set to compete in the Tokyo Olympics and Hanoi Southeast Asian Games got their first dose last Friday, May 28 at the Manila Prince Hotel.

Some PBA coaches have received their shots, either as senior citizens or with comorbidities.

Tenorio said he took the chance of getting inoculated in the US through help of friends who are based in nearby Orange County.

He left the country along with teammate Mark Caguioa and the latter’s fiancee Lauren Hudson. It is unknown if Caguioa and Hudson went to the US for the same reason.

During the trip, Tenorio and Caguioa were able to meet with PBA and Gilas Pilipinas great Jimmy Alapag, who is now based in the US.
