One-year old child, 2 others die in Mindanao massive flooding

At least three people died while multi-million pesos worth of damage in agriculture and infrastructure is expected as massive flooding swept several parts of Mindanao due to incessant rains in the past days.

The Office of Civil Defense confirmed the death of two people in Davao regionâ€”a 71-year old man who died of drowning after a flashflood occurred in Davao del Sur and a one-year old baby who died after some houses were buried in a landslide in Davao de Oro.

In South Cotabato, a 55-year old man was also confirmed to have died due to drowning in a flashflood in Noralla town. His cadaver was discovered on Sunday afternoon.

His daughter, a 14-year old girl is still missing.

Reports revealed that the two were attending to their farm animals on Saturday when they were swept by flashflood near a riverbank. Their relatives reported them missing after only their dog went home.

More or less 100 people were evacuated in South Cotabato as a result of the flooding due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone which was aggravated by Tropical Storm Dante.

OCD officials are currently conducting assessment to determine the extent of the damage of the massive flooding.
