Metro mayors eye uniform incentives for NCR residents to get inoculated vs COVID

Metro Manila mayors are considering giving uniform incentives to convince more people to get inoculated against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez, also the chairman of the Metro Manila Council (MMC), said in an interview with ABS-CBN Teleradyo, that some local government units (LGUs) started to have raffle draws to encourage more residents to get vaccinated.

Olivarez said the Metro Manila mayors were already discussing whether to have raffle draws or give residents other forms of incentives to encourage them to get vaccinated.

He said the MMC will come up with a uniform policy in giving incentives to residents to get vaccinated.

"Ang ibang LGU nagumpisa nang magpa-raffle para ma encourage (ang pagpapabakuna). Pinaguusapan po para uniform ang policy (Some LGUs have conducted raffles to encourage residents to get vaccinated. We're discussing this so we can have a uniform policy)," Olivarez said.

The MMC also agreed to keep the National Capital Region under the General Community Quarantine (GCQ) with heightened restrictions but is pushing for the opening up of more businesses.

Olivarez also said the MMC wants meeting centers, conferences, and exhibits to open at a limited capacity.

The MMC also wants strict observance and implementation of standard health protocols and retained the 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. curfew in the NCR.

"'Di po tayo pwede magrelax. Alam po nating bumababa ang cases at utilization ng healthcare pero di po tayo kailangan magrelax para totally ma-contain ang COVID na ito (The Metro Manila Council has recommended for the region to remain under GCQ with a little more opening of businesses. We can't relax yet. Although we know cases and health care utilization are decreasing, we can't relax yet until we totally contain COVID-19)," Olivarez said.
