As promised by the Russian government, 50,000 doses of Sputnik V vaccines were flown into the country late Sunday night, May 31.

The Qatar Airways flight (QR928) that carried the anti-coronavirus disease (COVID-19) jabs arrived at NAIA Terminal 3 at 10:23 p.m.
Vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. and Russian Ambassador to the Philippines Marat Pavlov were on hand to welcome the arrival of the latest batch of Sputnik V vaccines.

With this delivery, the Philippines has now received 80,000 doses of the Russian vaccine brand manufactured by Gamaleya Research Institute. The country received two batches of 15,000 doses each last May 1 and May 12. According to Pavlov, the arrival of Sputnik V vaccines will boost the diplomatic ties between Russia and the Philippines as they mark the 45th anniversary of the start of bilateral relations between the two countries.
"We are ready to deliver 20 million doses of Sputnik V according to the contracts that have been signed between the Russian Direct Investment Fund and the Government of the Philippines," Pavlov said.
