Give lethal injection to persons involved in vaccine 'slot for sale' modus, Año quips

Individuals who will be caught selling coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccine slots should be punished and given with lethal injection, a "joking" Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año said on Sunday, May 30.

"Ang biruan nga diyan, dapat daw ang mga taong gumagawa niyan ay hindi bakuna ang ibigay kundi lethal injection (There are jokes about it that the persons involved should be given lethal injection, not vaccines)," Año said in an interview over Dobol B TV of GMA News.

The DILG has intensified its efforts to monitor vaccine for sale scheme in the communities after authorities arrested one Kyle Bonifacio, who was accused of selling COVID-19 jab slots online.

According to police, Bonifacio allegedly tried to sell vaccine slots to his customers so they can get vaccinated even if they do not belong to the current priority sectors of the government.

He allegedly used his "connections" in some Metro Manila local government units (LGUs) to carry out this modus.

Ano warned LGU officials to refrain from engaging in this kind of modus as they will be prosecuted under the law.

"Kapag may nahuli tayo the act, talagang i-prosecute natin 'yan (If we catch them in the act, we will really prosecute them)," he said.

He assured that authorities are probing Bonifacio's case to unearth “more leads’’ into the unlawful scheme.

The DILG chief stressed that no one should jump the line as the vaccination process should be fair and done according to the level of priority in the list.

The Metro Manila Council has agreed to craft a uniform ordinance that would punish COVID-19 vaccine slot sellers.
