Sinas bids farewell, lauds commanders for helping him in his goal of improving PNP image
In his last press conference as chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday, May 3, Gen. Debold Sinas expressed gratitude to all police commanders, down to the chiefs of police, for helping him in his goal of improving the image of the police organization and its corporate culture.
"Before I pass on the mantle of leadership to my worthy successor... let me take this opportunity to thank all the men and women of the Philippine National Police for doing their jobs well. Sa aking mga (for my) Regional Directors, Provincial and City Directors, Municipal and City Chiefs of Police, maraming maraming salamat sa pakikiisa ninyo sa adhikain kong mabago ang ating (thank you very much for your cooperation in my goal of changing our) public image at (and) corporate culture," said Sinas.
"If I, as your Chief, took this organization further and higher than others, know that I did it by standing on your collective shoulders. Ang lahat ng accomplishment na ipinagmamalaki natin ngayong araw na ito ay nagmula lahat sa inyo (All the accomplishments that we are highlighting today came from you)," he added.
President Duterte designated Sinas as the next Chief PNP in November last year to replace retired Gen. Camilo Cascolan. His appointment became controversial and was widely criticized in the social media after he was accused of violating the quarantine protocols in May last year during his birthday.
Sinas is set to bow out of police service on May 8.
Despite serving for only six months, Sinas expressed belief that he did well in the fight against illegal drugs, crime, corruption and terrorism.
"I believe we have been able to deliver more than what we promised to the President and the public, simply because everyone kept faith with me, from the highest officer in our headquarters to the last beat patroller in the streets," said Sinas.
But Sinas admitted that the accomplishments did not come easy.
He said that they faced challenges in bringing back the trust and confidence of the people to the PNP, what is important, according to him, is that every policemen were able to trust each other in accomplishing the PNP goals.
"My journey ends here as the Chief, PNP and I'm truly thankful that we showcase our will to overcome obstacles, our dedication to duty despite the odds, our travails and triumphs, our love for God, country and people," said Sinas.
