DOH notes decrease in NCR's average COVID-19 daily attack rate

The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday, May 3 said the average daily attack rate (ADAR) of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the National Capital Region has decreased in the last two weeks.

"The ADAR shows a decrease in the recent one to two weeks with more than seven cases for every 100,000 individuals against ADAR of three to four weeks ago of 9.21 particularly here in NCR," Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a virtual forum.

"In February, we were only seeing three cases per 100,000 population. During the peak of this surge, we were seeing 34 which is an 11-fold increase on our attack rate. We have improved currently to an averge of 25 per 100,000," she added.

While this is an improvement, Vergeire said, this is "still beyond the seven per 100,000 threshold that we have set for high risk classification."

She added that this ADAR can still overwhelm the health system.

Vergeire said they also continue to see changes and improvements in the growth rate and ADAR.

In terms of the two-week growth rate, she said, that the 11 percent recorded three to four weeks ago has been reduced to negative 15 percent in the last one to two weeks.

"This means that even though cases are still increasing, we are seeing a continuous slowdown in the last two weeks," Vergeire said.
