Paranaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez said that 16 former members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were given livelihood cash assistance during the signing of a pledge to end the local communist armed conflict (ELCAC).

Olivarez said the 16 NPA members surrendered and decided to live a peaceful life in response to the call of President Duterte to end terrorism.
He said the signing of pledge of commitment was made on May 28 and attended by National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Major Gen. Vicente Danao and Southern Police District (SPD) director Gen. Jimili Macaraeg.
The mayor told Danao that the city government has established the Barangay Task Force in 16 barangays in the city to conduct monitoring on insurgency problems.
He said the city government is supporting the national government’s effort to end the local communist armed conflict.
