Nograles: Gov't to announce new quarantine status on May 31
Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said the quarantine classifications for the month of June will be announced on Monday, May 31, the last day of the existing coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown levels in the country.

In an interview over Brigada News FM, Nograles said the Inter-agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases already has its recommendations for next month's quarantine classification.
"Nagkaroon tayo ng IATF meeting noong Thursday. Meron na kaming mga recommendation (We had an IATF meeting on Thursday. We already have our recommendations)," he said.
"Binigyan na po natin ng pagkakataong mag-appeal ang ating mga iba't ibang governors or local chief executives doon sa ating recommended na bagong community quarantine classifications (We gave governors and local chief executives the opportunity to appeal these recommended community quarantine classifications)," he added.
Nograles, who co-chairs the IATF, said the final classifications will be up to President Duterte. These will be announced on Monday, May 31.
"After that, ibibigay natin kay Pangulo ang final recommendation. I-a-announce natin sa Monday kung ano yung magiging (we will give the final recommendation to the President. We will announce on Monday the) community quarantine classification for the month of June," he said.
On Thursday, Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said that there were still a lot of factors that should be considered before restrictions in the National Capital Region (NCR) bubble area can be further relaxed.
"Under existing criteria, that's generally a basis for relaxation of quarantine classification. But we have to decide considering all factors, including the recommendations of our implementers, our mayors," he said.
Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal are under the general community quarantine (GCQ) but with heightened restrictions until the end of the month.
Roque made the statement after the OCTA Research team said they continue to see a decline in the COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila, with more than 1,000 cases per day and the reproduction number declining to 0.53.
The reproduction number is used to describe the number of people who can get the virus from a person who tested positive for COVID-19.
OCTA Research said this week that the NCR Plus 8 area may control the spread of COVID-19 by October this year if the vaccination rate will be around 250,000 doses a day.
