The Department of Health (DOH) is not yet recommending to place the general community quarantine (GCQ) areas under looser quarantine restrictions for the month of June.

However, this stand of the DOH will still be discussed during the next meeting of the country’s Interagency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), said DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III.

“Well hindi pwedeng mag MGCQ (modified general community quarantine). Titingnan natin, pag-uusapan pa sa Lunes yung final recommendation for June 1 to 30. Iyan ay pag-uusapan bago irekomenda kay Pangulo, eh Lunes meron kaming tinatawag na 'Talk to the People' program at doon natin iaanunsyo ang bagong quarantine classification (Well, MGCQ is not yet possible. We will see, on Monday we will discuss the final recommendation for June 1 to 30. That will be discussed before recommending it to the President. Every Monday we have a program called 'Talk to the People' and we will announce there the new quarantine classification),” he said in a radio interview on Saturday, May 29.

“We're not out of the woods kumbaga, kaya ayun yung sasabihin ko kapag nag pulong kami sa Lunes. Ipapakita ko ang datos na may kataasan pa rin talaga ang mga kaso araw araw (We're not out of the woods yet, so that's what I'll say when we meet on Monday. I will present the data that the cases being reported daily are still high),” he added.

Even though the number of new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) is declining, the “daily attack rate” is still quite high, he said.

“Sa Kamaynilaan normally iyan dapat between 1 to 7 cases per 100,000 population para moderate risk classification. Tayo lagpas pa ng 7... Ibig sabihin, patuloy ang community transmission. Hindi napuputol ang kadena ng hawaan (In Metro Manila, normally that should be between 1 to 7 cases per 100,000 population for moderate risk classification. We are still beyond 7. Meaning, community transmission continues. The chain of infection is not yet cut),” said Duque.

He also expressed alarm over the rising number of cases in other regions.

Increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Visayas, Mindanao flagged anew

“Pero ang nakakatakot yung sa ibang lugar. Halimbawa sa Region 6, ang Iloilo City talagang tumataas. Puerto Princesa sa Palawan, Region 4B. Tapos yung ilang mga lugar sa Kabisayaan at Mindanao, tumataas din (But what is alarming is in other places. For example in Region 6, Iloilo City is really rising. Also, Puerto Princesa in Palawan, Region 4B. Then some areas in Visayas and Mindanao, are also increasing),” he added.

The Health chief reminded the public to still adhere to the minimum public health standards even if they got vaccinated against the COVID-19.
