Diocese of Kidapawan observes measures to help fight spread of COVID-19

The Diocese of Kidapawan has set up measures to help fight the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Kidapawan City.

Kidapawan Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo said the diocese is working hand-in-hand with the local government to help fight the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the city, which has been placed under the general community quarantine (GCQ) following a rise in the number of new cases.

“The diocese will observe the No Sunday Movement, which means that public masses on Sundays will be moved to Saturday or depending on the need in every parish. Our province is under GCQ beginning May 30. We will then observe the No Sunday Movement for all Sunday public masses to be transferred to Saturday, preferably after 12noon. Parishes may change their schedule according to their needs,” Bagaforo said over Radio Veritas.

“Saturday mornings will be reserved for weddings, funerals, and baptisms. Sunday masses are still to be celebrated in the main church with very limited attendance like sacristans, lectors, etc. Daily masses in churches will continue with limited attendance and will be live streamed,” the bishop added.

Kidapawan City Mayor Joseph Evangelista had appealed for cooperation following a recent increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the province. There are now more than 100 active cases in Kidapawan. Of the number, 70 percent are symptomatic while 30 percent are asymptomatic. Most of the cases involve families.
