Robredo as top presidential bet in online survey draws Roque's sneer

"Wishful thinking."

This was how Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque described the online survey that showed Vice President Leni Robredo as the most preferred presidential candidate for the elections next year.

During PTV-4's "Laging Handa" public briefing, Roque also said he was not aware of PiliPinas, the site that conducted the survey.

"Mukhang wishful thinking po 'yan. Hindi ko po naririnig kung ano 'yang polling company na 'yan (That appears to be wishful thinking. I have not heard of that polling company)," he said Friday.

"Hindi ko po alam kung ano ang prosesong ginawa ng kompanyang ito at, sa totoo lang, hindi ko pa naririnig ang kompanyang 'yan (I don't know what method that company used and, in all honesty, I have not heard of them)," he added.

According to Roque, he prefers to believe credible pollsters that use the cross-sampling method in their surveys.

"Ang pinaniniwalaan ko po ang mga pinagkakatiwalaang polling companies na malinaw po kung paano ang procedure nila bagama't 1,200 lang ang kanilang sample (I believe in trusted polling companies that are clear with their methodology even though they only have a sample size of 1,200)," he said.

"Kasi kapag talagang random po ang statistical surveys natin, nagiging accurate naman (Because if we have a random statistical survey, we will have accurate results)," he added.

The said survey showed Robredo leading the survey with 33.62 percent as of 1 p.m. on May 28. Next to her are Davao City Mayor and presidential daughter Sara Duterte-Carpio with 22.4 percent, followed by Senator and boxing icon Manny Pacquiao with 14.76 percent.

Other personalities in the survey are defeated vice president wannabe Bongbong Marcos on the fourth spot with 11.35 percent and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno is at the sixth spot with 6.48 percent.
