DOST records over 1.2 million S-PaSS registrants

Over 1.2 million travelers have registered at the Department of Science and Technology's (DOST) online travel management system or Safe, Swift and Smart Passage (S-PaSS).

DOST Secretary Fortunato “Boy” T. de la Peña said as of May 26, there has been a total of 1,250,336 registrations by individual users in the S-PaSS developed by DOST VI.

He noted that a total of 89 local government units composed of provinces, highly urbanized cities (HUCs) and independent component cities (ICCs) are using the system.

"This is 74 percent of the targeted LGU-Users of S-PaSS,” de la Peña said during his weekly report on Friday, May 28.

The targeted LGU-Users are those that have been identified by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to have authority in setting travel restriction policies and act on Travel Coordination Permits (TCPs) when needed.”

He cited that currently, there are seven regions "with 100 percent of their constituent cities using S-PaSS.”

"These are Regions 1 (Ilocos), 2 (Cagayan Valley), 4-A (Calabarzon), 4-B (Mimaropa), 6 (Western Visayas), 7 (Central VIsayas) and 10 (Northern Mindanao,” de la Peña said.

The system seeks to help the LGUs in managing the travelers coming from other parts of the country whether they are returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), local travelers, and tourists among others.

Through the system, travelers can check the travel restrictions of their destination through https://s-pass.ph.

"If the traveler is going to an LGU with “Restricted” travel policy, application for a Travel Coordination Permit (TCP) is required,” the DOST said.

"On the other hand, when traveling to an LGU with “Unrestricted” travel policy but passing through areas with strict travel protocols, DOST recommends that a Travel Pass-Through Permit (TPP) be generated to be presented to the appropriate authorities when requested.”

The DOST clarified that S-PaSS is not a contact tracing app and only those who intend to travel need to use the system.

In order to register and use the system, the traveler will have to visit the s-pass.ph website and provide his or her personal mobile number.
