
The country confirmed 8,748 more coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases on Friday, May 28.
The new cases brought the number of active cases nationwide to 53,770. Meanwhile, the Philippines’ running tally of cases is now at 1,209,154.
To note, the last time that the country logged more than 8,000 cases was on May 2 with 8,346 infections then.
The latest case bulletin showed that 93.2 percent of those who are still undergoing treatment have mild symptoms, 2.2 percent are asymptomatic, 1.4 percent are critical, 1.8 percent are severe, while 1.30 percent are in moderate state.
Meanwhile, the number of survivors climbed to 1,134,818 after 3,017 more recoveries were logged by the DOH.
However, the death count increased by 187 to 20,566.
The DOH reiterated that it is observing an upward trend in the COVID-19 infections in some regions, while the cases in Metro Manila and its nearby provinces are declining.
DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that they observed an increase in cases in the regions of Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Soccsksargen, and Davao region.
The Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases is currently studying if there is a need to impose stricter quarantine restrictions in those areas, she said.
“Tinututukan po nating maigi ang mga lugar at tayo po ay handa para magbigay ng assistance para sa mga areas na ito (We are closely monitoring these areas and we are ready to provide assistance to them),” said Vergeire.
