Dogie hints at roster change in NXP for 'franchise-based' MPL Philippines Season 8

After suffering another playoffs first-round exit in the MPL Philippines Season 7, Nexplay Esports coach and famous Mobile Legends: Bang Bang figure Setsuna "Dogie" Ignacio hinted at a possible change in their roster for the next season.

Dogie bared this in his latest YouTube vlog titled "HAPPY BDAY" (referring to the birthday of NXP gold laner Renejay "RENEJAY" Barcarse) published on Thursday night, May 27, wherein he also claimed that the MPL-PH Season 8 will have a franchise-based setup.

"Just to give you a heads-up guys, MPL Season 8 I think is 100 percent confirmed na franchise-based na siya (MPL Season 8, I think it's 100 percent confirmed that it will be franchise-based)," said Dogie.

"Dito guys baka magre-roster kami kasi doon pwede na ata palitan lahat ng players. 'Di katulad ng dati na dapat tatlo ang mag-stay tapos palit ka ng tatlo. Pero ngayon back to zero na, palit na talaga lahat (In this franchise-based season, we might change our roster, because in this setup I think we can replace all the players. Unlike in the previous format wherein three players must stay and you can replace the other three, this time it's back to zero)," he added.

Manila Bulletin tried to reach Moonton for confirmation about the next MPL season going franchise-based but the Shanghai-based game developer has yet to comment on the matter.

Dogie's NXP crashed out of the first round of the playoffs for the second straight season after losing 3-1 to league rookie Work Auster Force in the lower bracket opener last Wednesday night.

The fan favorites actually won Game 1 through an amazing comeback behind Dexter "Exort" Martinez's Lunox and John Paul "H2wo" Salonga's Ling.

But the boys of coach Laurenz "Lift" Ruiz went on to dominate the next three games on the back of Daniel "Chuuu" Chu's Ling, Frediemar "3MarTzy" Serafico's Benedetta and Clarense "Kousei" Camilo's Esmeralda to keep their title bid alive in the lower bracket.

As it stands, NXP still has its mainstay trio of H2wo, Renejay and tank Tristan "Yawi" Cabrera along with support Exort, EXP laner James "Jeymz" Gloria and sixth man Lance "LanceCy" Cunanan.

Dogie said he has yet to discuss with the Nexplay management and his assistant coach John Michael "Zico" Dizon if they will opt to buy out players or conduct a tryout for its possible roster shuffle.

"Mag-uusap kami ng Nexplay pati ni Zico. Magmi-meeting kami kung sino 'yung gusto naming i-buy out na player and kung wala kaming ma-buy out, magpapa-tryout ba kami (I will talk with Nexplay and Zico. We will have a meeting on who we want to buy out or will we conduct a tryout if there's no available to buy out)," he said.

"If ever magpa-tryout kami guys, baka kayo na 'to. Pero 'di ko pa sure kung anong role 'yung ipapa-tryout so abang na lang kayo (If ever we will have a tryout, this could be you. But I'm still not sure what role will be the tryout for so stay tuned)."
