Robredo launches COVID-19 response projects in 6 areas

The office of Vice President Leni Robredo on Thursday, May 27, held simultaneous activities in various parts of the country for its response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Robredo, in a Facebook post, reported the “many different OVP programs happening today” in Palawan, Malabon City, Tuguegarao, Eastern Samar, Naga City, and Camarines Sur.

The vice president shared the arrival of a team from her office on Wednesday, May 26, in Puerto Princesa City, where they met Mayor Lucilo Bayron and their private partners the next day for the COVID-19 response programs.

Robredo also noted the OVP’s Swab Cab, a mobile antigen testing facility, returned to Malabon, specificially in Barangays Hulong Duhat, Dampalit, Flores, Baritan, Concepcion, Muzon, Panghulo, Magsilo and Santolan.

Tuguegarao is the latest destination of the Swab Cab initiative after its rollout in March.

“2nd day of our Swab Cab in Tuguegarao. We’re targetting 1000 frontliners to help control the spread,” Robredo said.

The OVP launched the Swab Cab program to do surveillance testing and help boost the testing capabilities of local government units (LGUs) with high transmission rates. It partners with LGUs to bring the Swab Cab to their areas, where village officials are tasked to identify who among the residents must undergo testing.

Robredo’s office also incentivized those who will undergo antigen testing, giving a two-week worth of food for the families of those who will test positive to COVID-19.

In the same post, the vice president said their family has sponsored a community pantry, which her husband’s sister started a few weeks ago “and has been ongoing for sometime already,” in Barangay Tabuco in Naga City.

The late Interior secretary and Naga City Mayor Jesse Robredo, was born in Tabuco. It was also “where we lived for many years,” she shared.

The community pantry, which started in Quezon City during the height of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), was made possible by the OVP’s private partners.

An OVP team is likewise assessing its ongoing COVID-19 response projects in Eastern Samar.

“This is also the 2nd day that we’re giving away post-vaccine care kits under our Bayanihan E-Ataman program for those who are having themselves vaccinated in the 3rd district of Camarines Sur,” Robredo added.
