LPA may enter PAR this weekend - PAGASA

A low pressure area (LPA) is forecast to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) this weekend, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Thursday, May 27.

PAGASA weather specialist Ariel Rojas said the LPA was last spotted at about 2,215 kilometers east of Mindanao, noting that it is still too far to affect the country.

“In the next 24 to 48 hours, ay hindi inaasahan pang magiging bagyo ang LPA na ito (this LPA is not expected to develop into a cyclone),” Rojas said.

“Ito ay kikilos pakanluran at possibleng pumasok sa Philippine area of responsibility by Saturday or Sunday (It will move westward and possibly enter the Philippine area of responsibility by Saturday or Sunday),” he added.

The weather disturbance will then likely move northwestward approaching the area of Eastern Visayas or Bicol Region, he further said.

Meanwhile, the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), or the convergence of trade winds from the northern and southern hemispheres, would prevail over Mindanao.

On the other hand, Luzon and Visayas would continue to experience hot and humid weather conditions due to the easterlies or warm winds from the Pacific.

The state weather bureau said Metro Manila and the rest of the country may have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to the ITCZ and the easterlies.

The agency warned of possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
