The Kalayaan sheltered port in Palawan is now underway as part of the Philippine Coast Guard's continuous monitoring and mitigating risks of maritime incidents in the area.
During his visit at the Kapayaan Island, PCG Commandant Admiral George Ursabia Jr. has inspected the ongoing construction of the Kalayaan sheltered port and said it will improve the economy and the daily lives of the residents in the area.
The Philippine government created the Kalayaan municipality as part of Palawan province in 1978.

Ursabia expressed his satisfaction with the improvement of the facilities in the island compared to his last visit in 2015.
"Nakakatuwang makita na malaki na ang pinagbago dito — mas maayos na ang daan at standard of living ng mga tao. Umaasa ako na patuloy na gaganda ang samahan ng iba’t-ibang sangay ng gobyerno dito at ang Coast Guard ninyo po na we will step up our presence here (It is good to see that a lot has changed here - the way and standard of living of the people has improved. I hope that the organization of the various branches of government will continue to improve here and the Coast Guard will step up our presence here),” Ursabia said.

“Dahan-dahan, as we grow, sisiguruhin namin na ang Kalayaan ay magiging kabahagi sa pagbangon at paglago ng ating bansa (Slowly, as we grow, we will ensure that the Kalayaan Island will be part of the rise and growth of our country)," he added.
Meanwhile, the PCG is planning to establish an operations base in El Nido, Palawan to intensify the sovereignty patrols and safeguard the Filipino fishermen in the West Philippine Sea.
