K-drama 'My Roommate Is A Gumiho' premieres on iQiyi, tops ratings in Korea

“My Roommate Is A Gumiho,” iQiyi’s first original Korean drama, premiered on the OTT (over-the-top) video streaming platform on May 26 and grabbed first place in the ratings in Korea.

The K-drama, starring Jang Ki-yong and Lee Hye-ri of “Reply 1988,” aired its first episode Wednesday and garnered ratings of 5.28 percent (nationwide) and 5.88 percent (metropolitan area) to grab first place among all shows on cable TV, according to Nielsen Korea.

It also garnered an average of 3.2 percent among the coveted 20-49 age group to rank first in all channels including terrestrial.

“My Roommate Is A Gumiho” tells the story of a nine-tailed fox, Shin Woo-yeo (played by Jang Ki-yong), who has been secretly living in the mortal world for several hundred years and is finally set to become human soon.

Lee Dam (played by Lee Hye-ri) accidentally swallows the fox bead that he needs to become human and the two are forced to live together and think of a solution. Unexpectedly, romance blooms.

In the first episode, Lee Dam meets Shin Woo-yeo when her drunk friend rests on his car. As she was helping her friend, she trips and Shin Woo-yeo catches her hand to prevent her from falling. In the process, she swallows her fox bead and faints.

She found herself in his house and he told her that she has his fox bead.

“I am a gumiho. It already placed itself in your body,” he told her about the fox bead and suggested that they live together. He transforms into a nine-tailed fox, which shocked her. She then agrees to live in his house to find a solution to the fox bead.

“My Roommate Is A Gumiho” will be simulcast every Wednesday and Thursday at 9:40 p.m. on IQ.com.
