ITCZ to affect parts of Visayas, Mindanao; LPA spotted outside PAR

Parts of Visayas and Mindanao may experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms on Thursday, May 27, due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), the state weather bureau said.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the ITCZ, or the convergence of trade winds from the northern and southern hemispheres, would affect Visayas and Mindanao.

Due to the weather system, cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may affect Central Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and the provinces of Negros Occidental, Leyte, and Southern Leyte.

State meteorologists warned of possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to at times heavy rains.

Meanwhile, the easterlies or warm and humid winds from the Pacific Ocean is affecting the rest of the country.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience but partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to the easterlies and localized thunderstorms.

On the other hand, weather specialist Shelly Ignacio said a low pressure area was spotted outside the Philippine area of responsibility.

The weather disturbance was located at around 2,460 kilometers east of Mindanao as of 3 a.m., and does not affect any part of the country as of this time.
