Greed's clutch Lord steal steers Aura past Omega and closer to MPL finals

Star support Allen "Greed_" Baloy on his Valir came up with a clutch Lord steal as Aura PH survived Smart Omega, 3-2, in a grueling playoffs upper bracket series to move closer to the MPL Philippines Season 7 grand finals late Thursday night, May 26.

Greed hit the Luminous Lord with Burst Fireball just at the right time to snatch it against Salic "Hadjizy" Imam's Granger in the 20th minute of the deciding Game 5, allowing Aura to snag the momentum and slowly claw its way back after losing all its turrets.

Benedict "Bennyqt" Gonzales' Lunox and Mark "Lord Hadess" Lazaro's Ling then came through with crucial pickoffs on Hadjizy and Adrian "Toshi" Bacallo's Esmeralda in final clash to secure the fourth Lord take and close out the battle of attrition.

With the hard-fought series win, the two-time MPL champion Aura advanced to the upper bracket finals where another victory will push them to the best-of-seven grand finals.

Coach Michael Angelo "Arcadia" Bocado and strategic coach Steven "DaleDalus" Vitug's squad will next tackle the winner between Blacklist International and Bren Esports on Thursday night.

On the other hand, last season's runner-up Omega dropped to the lower bracket and is set to face the victor between Execration and Onic PH also on Thursday.

Coach Tony "Ynot" Senedrin's Omega actually got the first blood in the series by prevailing over Aura in the longest game of the season which lasted for 46 minutes and 29 seconds on the back of Jankurt "KurtTzy" Matira's Benedetta.

Aura struck back hard in Game 2 behind a successful Phoveus debut at the hands of Ashley "Killuash" Cruz before Lord Hadess' unkillable Claude in Game 3 handed them the match point.

Omega, however, pulled out Kenneth Jiane "Kenji" Villa's Gloo as well as Toshi's Bane who provided physical damage burst for a quick 13-minute equalizer in Game 4.

Kenji and company looked poised to take the series with their massive advantage in Game 5 until Greed came to save the day for Aura with his heroic Lord steal.
