Quoting reports from the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco, the DFA said they are still in the process of getting more information and expressed readiness to provide help if needed.
“There are eight fatalities in the shooting in California. The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco is confirming reports that at least one of them is of Filipino descent. The Consulate General is in the process of coordinating with authorities to get more info and is ready to extend any assistance if warranted,” said a statement from the DFA.
The DFA, however, did not immediately provide the name of the victim.
It was earlier reported that a gunman opened fire at a light rail transit maintenance facility Wednesday (Thursday in Manila), killing eight people before killing himself.
Authorities in Santa Clara County identified the suspect as Sam Cassidy, 57, who worked at the Valley Transportation Authority facility in San Jose.
The motive for the bloody shooting has yet to be established.
