Heat index observed in Dagupan City and Sangley Point in Cavite soared to 48 degrees Celsius on Thursday, May 27, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

In its latest monitoring bulletin, PAGASA said the computed heat index value in the two areas, which falls under the “danger” level, was recorded at around 2 p.m.
The state weather bureau said 15 other areas across the country felt heat index values within the danger level on Thursday. These were:
Itbayat, Batanes - 46°C, 2 p.m.
Ambulong, Batangas - 45°C, 2 p.m.
Masbate City, Masbate - 44°C, 2 p.m.
NAIA, Pasay City - 44°C, 2 p.m.
Tuguegarao City, Cagayan - 44°C, 5 p.m.
Laoag, Ilocos Norte - 43°C, 2 p.m.
Roxas City, Capiz - 43°C, 11 a.m.
Davao City, Davao del Sur - 42°C, 1 p.m.
Legazpi, Albay - 42°C, 2 p.m.
Surigao City, Surigao del Sur - 42°C, 2 p.m.
Clark Airport, Pampanga - 42°C, 5 p.m
Cubi Point, Subic Bay - 41°C, 2 p.m.
Port Area, Manila - 41°C, 2 p.m.
Science Garden, Quezon City - 41°C, 2 p.m.
Sinait, Ilocos Sur - 41°C, 5 p.m.
PAGASA defines heat index as a human discomfort index that gives the “apparent” temperature or what a human perceives or feels as the temperature affects the body.
It is at least three to four degrees Celsius higher than the actual air temperature.
A heat index between 41℃ and 54℃ is under what the PAGASA considers as “danger” level.
