Total lunar eclipse brings delight to pandemic-weary Filipinos
Filipinos across the country watched the rare "blood moon" lunar eclipse Wednesday evening, May 26.

While clouds and pandemic restrictions kept some Filipinos from seeing the lunar spectacle live, social media and video streams have provided alternative viewing opportunities.
One of those that organized a virtual live viewing of the total lunar eclipse was the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) through its Facebook page Dost_pagasa and Youtube channel DOST-PAGASA Weather Report.
Here are some of the top social media responses to the "blood moon" lunar eclipse.
Social media users Ayleen Celeste Flores, Keluarga Bako, and Queenie Bartido Deliverio shared their reactions.
"Saw it here at San Manuel, Isabela and yes nagblood moon na sya (it turned blood moon already)," Flores said.
"It's sooo pretty to see it in the night ," Bako said.
Deliverio described the view as "magnifico," having clear skies in Dasmariñas, Cavite.
Catherine Recato also thanked PAGASA for the live viewing as her son was "so happy."
"Hair at the back of my neck is growing while watching. Awoooooo," another netizen Francis Cruz reacted.
For Mar Vin, the sight of the blood moon gave him "goosebumps."
"Kaya pala ng hanapin namin ni misis ay di namin makita e kasi yon yong panahon ng greatest eclipse (That's why when my wife and I looked for it, we couldn't find it because it was the period of the greatest eclipse)," JulioJr C Moreno shared.
PAGASA said the greatest eclipse, which is when the moon became completely immersed in Earth's dark umbral shadow, happened at 7:18 p.m. (Philippine Standard Time).
However, there were other people who expressed dismay after clouds blocked their views.
"I can't see because of rainclouds covering the sky in our place," said Bernandina Lanoy-baybay.
Rocelyne Kangleon said it was "not visible" in Pasay City due to "smog."
"Watching from San Francisco, Agusan del Sur maulan dito madilim ang langit di namin makita thank you sa update (it's raining here the sky is dark, we can't see. Thank you for the update)," social media user JR Sabejon Aguelo Rillezan said.
Facebook users Trixie Bautista, Diomedes Carino, and JC Gutierrez Morales were just some of those who shared their photos of the lunar eclipse through the Manila Bulletin's Facebook page.
Here are their photos.

The astronomical event was extra special as the total lunar eclipse or "blood moon" was visible in the Philippines as a "supermoon" wherein the moon appeared 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than a regular full moon.
