Parañaque City launches safety seal certification program to increase consumer confidence

The Parañaque City government has launched its safety seal certification program that will guarantee that businesses are compliant with the requirements set by the government to increase consumer confidence.

Led by Mayor Edwin Olivarez, the city government began its first onsite inspection and awarded the Safety Seal certification to SM Mall Sucat.

Olivarez was joined by Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Usec. Jonathan Malaya.

“The local government is committed to require all business establishments to comply with the minimum public health standards as we increase the operating capacity to help them recover in this pandemic. SM Mall Sucat is just the first in Paranaque to receive the Safety Seal,” Olivarez said.

The mayor said that under the JMC (Joint Memorandum Circular) No. 21-01, the local government is mandated to create a Safety Seal Certification Committee who shall serve as the issuing authority for the registered business establishments who wish to be inspected and verified with Safety Seal.

Olivarez said the Safety Seal will assure the transacting consumers that a business establishment is compliant with the health standards.

Lopez said during the launching of program said: “We laud the Paranaque City government for taking the initiative to certify business establishments with the Safety Seal. This is in line with the government’s effort to build business and consumer confidence in this community quarantine.”

The mayor said the list of business establishments under the local government’s supervision must comply with the eligibility and compliance requirements valid for six months and can be renewed, revoked, or reinstated based on the findings of the committee.

Olivarez said the Safety Seal will also allow businesses the opportunity to gradually increase their operating capacity provided that health standards and other precautionary and preventive measures are met and satisfied.

Usec. Malaya said: “The DILG reminds all LGUS to provide a checklist of requirements for the business establishments. The use of StaySafe application must be a mandatory procedure for all registered businesses before they entertain consumers for contact tracing purposes only.”

The mayor said the Safety Seal Committee is headed by the Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO) chief Atty. Melanie T. Soriano –Malaya

The committee is composed of the City Health Office (CHO), the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, the Public Information Office (PIO), and the Philippine National Police (PNP). They will conduct regular inspections and posting of Safety Seal with the details of compliance which shall be made available to the transacting consumers by scanning the QR code.
